Alliant Negotiations Update #43 February 11, 2004 Dear Sister or Brother: Today, Wednesday, February 11, 2004 our Committee met with the Company’s Committee and the Federal Mediator at the Madison Labor Temple to continue negotiations. The Company’s Committee had problems with the Union Committee members displaying picket signs in their windows while parked at the Alliant Headquarters. Since they could not prohibit the displaying of the picket signs, the Company’s Committee chose to meet at the Madison Labor Temple. The Company’s Committee presented a package of 3.0% for three years and it did not include any kind of improvement to the current Pension Plan, be it for the term of the agreement or permanently such as the previous negotiated Social Security Offset. The Company bargained regressively today and with the offer that was presented today, they in fact moved backwards. On February 6, 2004 they presented a package that had moved us backwards and considered regressive. We considered filing another Unfair Labor Practice Charge on that day because of the Company’s action. Due to today’s offer and the fact that the Company is bargaining again in Bad Faith, Business Manager Reents will be filing another Unfair Labor Practice Charge tomorrow on their regressive bargaining. The two Committees will not be meeting again until February 24, 2004 at the Madison Labor Temple. The Union Committee was available to meet before that date, but the Company’s Committee refused due to conflicts in their schedules. Due to this weekend being Valentine’s Day, we are scheduling the next informational picket session for Madison at the State Capitol and some of the Executive’s downtown condominiums on Saturday, February 21, 2004. The timeframe is again 9:00 AM to 12 Noon. We are planning this to be a large event and to include other Madison Labor Organizations. More information will follow when details become available. We look forward to seeing you there!
