Dear Sisters and Brothers: Our Negotiating Committee would like to take this opportunity to share their appreciation for those individuals who cast their ballot in the recent Alliant Energy Contract vote. As you are aware, the Employer gave our committee a final package, which we took out for a vote of the membership. This package was not a tentative agreement, nor did your Union Negotiating Committee endorse it. Today, our Ballot Committee completed the process of counting the ballots. The package was not ratified by the Membership and was voted down by a substantial majority. Out of 1426 eligible voters, 1091 members took the opportunity to vote on the Company's final package, with 1060 "no" votes and only 30 "yes" votes. There was one voided ballot. This means that with a 76% voter turnout over 97% of the voting membership turned this package down. This is very impressive! Our Negotiating Committee appreciates the strong support that we have received thus far and asks for your continued support as we move forward. Your e-mails are appreciated, as are those members proud enough to wear their "Invest in Me" pins. Of course, we need you to stay involved in this process and continue to remain together as a collective voice. As the saying goes, "United we bargain, but divided we beg". We have notified the Company and the Federal Mediator of these results and will be returning to the negotiating table on Tuesday, August 5, 2003. We will attempt, through these negotiations, to get a Contract that we believe will be fair and reasonable in addressing the concerns that have been shared with us throughout this process. As in the past, we will continue to keep you informed as we progress through negotiations. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us. In Solidarity, Shawn Reents Mike Pyne Gary McGrath Bob Jung Holly Kaiser |
