Dear Sister or Brother,

Many of you have told the members of the Local 965 Negotiating Committee how upset you are at Mark Thompson's illegal bargaining tactics and have asked what you can do about it. If you believe Alliant doesn't understand everything you do to help it to prosper, here are some ways to help the Company better appreciate your contributions:

1. Don't Volunteer. If Alliant refuses to pay you a fair wage, why continue to volunteer to:

· serve on Company committees such as Six Sigma?

· skip meals rather than take meals breaks permitted under Article XIV?

· substitute in vacant salaried positions temporarily?

· report to the jobsite instead of headquarters as permitted by Article XV of the contract and as outlined in the Travel Rules?

· drive home if you are working more than 25 miles from headquarters and are permitted to stay in a hotel under Article XV?

These are but a few examples of the many little things Local 965 members do on their own to help the Company run more smoothly. If you are not sure whether a particular activity is voluntary, please ask your steward or contact the union office. Of course, you are required to continue to perform all mandatory job duties that are part of your job description.

2. Work to Safety Rules. Safety Rule 102(c) states: "Safety will not be Sacrificed for Speed." Unfortunately, many of us overlook this Rule and other Safety Rules as we go about doing our jobs as efficiently and quickly as possible. This increases the risk of injuries. Here are some examples of Safety Rules that sometimes get overlooked:

· tailgating requirements refer to (Safety Rule 102(c))

· inspecting and testing rubber gloves twice a day (Safety Rule 502)

· thorough inspection of vehicles before use

· stretching exercises required by the Industrial Athlete Program

· reporting violations of laws and policies on the hotline

You should review the Safety Rules that apply to you and fully comply with them.

We believe your rights to engage in these activities are protected by federal labor law. Local 965 will stand behind anyone who is disciplined for exercising these rights.
