Local 965 2010 Elections

Nominations for the Officers listed below will be made at your April 2010 Unit Meeting:

President

Vice President

Recording Secretary

Treasurer

Business Manager & Financial Secretary/International Convention Delegate

Eight (8) Executive Board Members/ Unit Chairs of the Eight Local 965 Units

International Convention Delegates (5)

International Convention Alternates (2)

   The Nominations of the Officers, Delegates and the Executive Board Members/Unit Chairs shall be made under the New Business part of the monthly Unit Meeting in April.    

   Members of one Unit may nominate members of another Unit for the Local Union Officers positions.  A member running for the Office of Executive Board of Local 965/ Unit Chair of one of the Eight Units must be nominated at that particular Unit meeting in April.  If a member placing the name of another member in nomination for an office, and when the nominated member is not present, shall at the time the nomination is made, give to the Vice Unit Chair/ Unit Recorder, evidence in writing, signed by the nominee, that the nominee agrees to be a candidate for the specific Local Union Office.  However, any member being nominated in this manner cannot signify his/her intentions to be a candidate for more than one (1) specific Local Union office.  [Local Union Bylaws Article III Section 4(b).]

   The offices of Business Manager & Financial Secretary shall be combined, per Article III, Section 5(b) of the Local Union Bylaws, and must be filled by a member holding an “A” membership as required by the IBEW Constitution.    

   No member shall be a candidate for more than one (1) office, of the Local Union, (unless combined under the Bylaws).  If a member is nominated for more than one office, the member shall immediately declare for which office he/she will be a candidate.  [LU Bylaws Article III, Section 7(b).]

   No member shall be eligible for office unless he/she has been a member of Local Union 965 in continuous good standing for at least two (2) years immediately prior to the nomination.

Nomination for the Unit and Sub-Unit Officers listed below will be made at your May 2010 Unit Meeting.

Vice Unit Chair/Unit Recorder,  (One position for each of the Eight (8) Units).

Chief Steward for each Sub-Unit

   These Unit Officers and Sub-Unit Officers shall be nominated at the regular meeting of each Unit in May 2010 and elected in June 2010 Unit Meeting.  Only the members of the Unit and of each of the Sub-Units, who are in good standing, are eligible to nominate, be nominated and vote for these particular Officers.

   No member shall be a candidate for more than one (1) Unit Office.   A nominee can be nominated for Chief Steward of the Sub-Unit and the Unit Office but cannot be nominated for more than one Unit Office.  If a member is nominated for more than one (1) office, the member shall immediately declare for which office he/she will be a candidate.  No member shall be nominated for Unit Office unless they are present or signify in writing their willingness to be a candidate.

   A member must have at least six (6) months of continuous standing in their Unit and their Sub-Unit immediately prior to nomination, to be eligible for office in their Unit or Sub-Unit, provided the Unit or the Sub-Unit has been existence for six (6) months or more.  The member’s work location or headquarters, and not seniority determines the proper Sub-Unit and Unit locations that the member is considered in good standing.  The Sub-Units and Units are listed in the Local Union Bylaws, Article XII, Section 14.
