May 1st Solidarity Communication Update

As of this e-mail over 50% of the members of IBEW Local Union 965 are receiving this e-mail through the newly updated communication e-mail list.  We have worked many hours updating the e-mail information however there is still a long way to go to meet our goal.  When we have completed this project, it is our goal to be able to communicate with all of our members within 24 hours of any communication being sent out.  This will be extremely important as we enter into negotiations in early 2007 with Alliant/WPL

If you have anyone who wants to be added to the e-mail list, they should submit and e-mail to unite@ibew965.com with name, location and e-mail address.  At this time, we have averaged sending one e-mail a week for the past few months.  If you are not receiving these e-mails, you have not provided us with and e-mail address or there is a problem with the e-mail address on file.  This could include problems such as your mailbox is full and/or your e-mail has identified our bulk e-mail as spam and is automatically deleting the e-mail or not allowing the e-mail to be delivered.

Along with this communication effort, we are requesting those individuals that are not receiving e-mail from us to have the information shared with them through a sponsor.  This effort should be coordinated with the Chief Steward at each location.  It is our intent to complete this project by the end of May.  At that time, anyone who is not receiving e-mail from the Union Office on a weekly basis or receiving the information from a sponsor on a weekly basis should contact the local Chief Steward to discuss how the information can be shared.  After talking with your Chief Steward, if you are still not receiving the communication in a timely manner, you should contact the Union Office at unite@ibew965.com or 608.259.2400 and we will work with you directly.

On Friday, May 12, 2006 at the conclusion of the Executive Board meeting, the Solidarity committee will be meeting to discuss the timeline and solidarity activities associated with the upcoming contract negotiations with Alliant/WPL.  One of the solidarity activities that have already been approved is to support June as National Safety month.  Over the next few weeks, each of the Chief Stewards will be receiving buttons with safety slogans to be worn by members throughout the month of June.  You should let your Chief Steward know you are interested in supporting this activity and show our solidarity toward safety.  The Chief Stewards are supposed to submit their order for buttons to the Union Office no later than Friday, May 12, 2006.

How many of you did not see the April 2006 newsletter?  The newsletter for the quarter took on a new look.  It was sent out electronically one week ago.  Further, a letter was sent to the Chief Stewards with a copy of the newsletter that requested the Chief Steward to contact the Union Office if they needed any copies.  At this point, we have received very few requests so we are hopeful that this method of distribution was a success.  Any comments or questions are appreciated.  They can be sent to the Union Office in writing by fax 608.259.2405, e mail unite@ibew965.com or US Mail IBEW Local Union 965, 1602 South Park Street , Rm 220, Madison , WI 53715 .
